Blockchain – and cryptocurrency in general – is a hot topic all over the globe. Job openings in the Blockchain industry have increased exponentially the last couple of years. At the moment, it is the most in-demand skill in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Australia.
Blockchain technology gives us infinite possibilities for the future. Many companies have already started incorporating the applications of Blockchain in their business models, and are already reaping its benefits. Many new products and services will be based on Blockchain technology.
We may very well be on the verge of the next great era-defining protocol. Can Blockchain technology be the next Internet? Can Bitcoin play a role as a new reserve currency? Only time will tell. However, what can doubtlessly be concluded, is that the sheer scope of Bitcoin and other Blockchain applications is boundless.
The Blockchain developer is at the root of this technological revolution. There couldn’t be a better time to start or move your career as a developer, coder, programmer or software engineer into the Blockchain realm!
THE PATH AND ROLE OF A BLOCKCHAIN DEVELOPER
A Blockchain developer develops and optimizes Blockchain protocols, crafts the architecture of Blockchain systems and develops smart contracts and web apps. In 2009, the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto first coded Bitcoin, the world’s first Cryptocurrency based on Blockchain technology, in C++. In today’s Blockchain applications, many languages are used like Python, Java, JavaScript, PHP, C# or Solidity (for the Ethereum platform). Knowledge of at least one of the mentioned coding languages is essential.
If you are keen on becoming a Blockchain Developer, then it is important that you know how the Blockchain works. A good place to start is to read the Bitcoin Whitepaper written by Satoshi Nakamoto back in 2009.
Of course the learning path to become a Blockchain developer is different for each individual. The amount of available material on the web is enormous. I will not try to give a one-size-fits-all advice, nonetheless these three educational sources are definitely worth consideration:
- Codeacademy: Learn the Basics of Blockchain with Python (Free 2-hour course)
- Mastering Bitcoin by Andreas M. Antonopoulos (Book)
- PROGRAMMING BITCOIN by Jimmy Song (Book)
