London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) is looking for an experienced senior writer or journalist, with a strong background in data-led content, to join our leadership communications team. The successful candidate will work with senior leaders from across the Group to create distinctive, perspectives and thought leadership on the biggest issues facing global markets and the economy – from sustainable investing and cryptocurrencies to Asia’s growing influence and the UK’s place in global finance.

It will be this person’s role to find eye-catching stories and insights, chiefly via LSEG’s data platform – one of the world’s largest pools of financial data and analytics – and to then help LSEG leaders bring those stories to life for an influential global audience … though words and ideally data visualisation too.

We need a first-rate writer who can help create speeches, briefings, opinion editorials, thought leadership reports and blogs, as well as content aimed at LSEG’s 25,000-strong team internally. This role requires someone with classic journalistic skills: an eye for detail as well as a story; who is innovative as well as analytical; brilliant at building relationships and creating networks; and someone who can see the big picture as well as the pitfalls for a systemically-important provider of financial markets infrastructure.

The person in this position should have been a journalist for at least eight years, or specifically a data journalist for four years. They should have reported on financial markets and/or economic issues for a good proportion that time.

The role sits alongside fellow writers and speechwriters in the Communications team and involves working with very senior stakeholders. Frequently facing multiple deadlines, we are looking for someone who is confident, a natural communicator, full of original ideas and can articulate them persuasively.

The successful candidate will:

  • Unearth data-driven insights that position LSEG as a thought leader using our data platform, internal data and third-party data

  • Work directly with members of LSEG’s Board and Executive Committee to create distinctive, hard-hitting and data-driven content

  • Have experience taking complicated data sets and thinking through how they could be represented clearly and visually

  • Have worked with infographic solutions – either in a still or animation environment

  • Develop networks across LSEG, and in particular Marketing, Sustainability and Government Affairs teams to identify key content for LSEG’s leaders

  • Be a champion for our data solutions within the Communications and Marketing team.

Skills include:

  • A brain that balances analytical skills with creative flair

  • Ability to spot stories that help clarify and simplify complicated data sets

  • A strong understanding of finance, capital markets and major economic and political issues

  • Some experience using LSEG data products such as Refinitiv Eikon or Workspace would be an advantage

  • First-class journalistic skills – spotting interesting and undiscovered stories

  • Experience writing in others’ voices is a plus
