About the Team

The Privacy team manages Workday’s global privacy program and supports workmates in the product and technology organizations as they build, deliver, and support offerings for our customers. We work closely with various teams to ensure that we are delivering offerings in a way that is consistent with our contractual commitments, privacy requirements, and core values.

About the Role

At Workday, trust underpins our relationships with our customers, and in support of that we have a world-leading privacy program to protect individuals’ personal data.
We are expanding our EMEA privacy team and are looking for a talented lawyer to join us at the forefront of providing innovative and effective privacy advice to our business, product, and sales teams. The position will report into the Head of EMEA Privacy and can be located in one of our European corporate offices in Paris or Munich. The principal responsibilities of this position are:

  • Partner with Workday’s Go to Market Legal team.
    As a provider of cloud-based services, Workday operates as a data processor with respect to its customers. You will partner with our EMEA go to market legal team in customer negotiations, including supporting the drafting and negotiation of privacy-related agreements. In addition, you will provide support to our inbound legal team as they onboard new vendors and negotiate privacy agreements.

  • Provide privacy advice in connection with the development of new products and services.
    We are constantly expanding our product offerings, with a focus on building analytics applications. You will partner with senior leaders and our product legal team to provide creative, business-centric privacy advice on products, including with respect to how new technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain interact with privacy laws.

  • Provide legal advice in connection with Workday’s privacy compliance program.
    Customer trust is essential to what we do. We have built a world-leading privacy compliance program, supported by numerous certifications and audits. As we continue to grow our privacy program, you will provide advice on legal requirements to ensure Workday’s ongoing compliance with data protection laws across Europe, including the GDPR.
About You
Basic qualifications
  • Fully qualified lawyer with a European law degree
  • 6+ post qualification years of privacy experience with demonstrated proficiency in issues impacting privacy, data protection and information security; a combination of private practice and in-house experience is ideal
  • Expert knowledge of data protection and information security laws, rules and regulations in Europe and globally, including the GDPR.
Other qualifications
  • Experience negotiating complex data processing agreements, particularly in connection with cloud computing services, enterprise software or social network environment.
  • Experience providing privacy advice in connection with the development of new products and services, particularly in the technology / cloud computing spaces.
  • Exposure to cutting edge privacy issues posed by machine learning, artificial intelligence, and blockchain.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, from email advice to detailed memoranda to negotiations with counter-parties to advocacy in client meetings.
  • Excellent judgment, detail-orientation and ability to balance competing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Fluency in more than one European language in addition to English a plus.
