The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

Enterprise Blockchain is a transformational technology that promises to enable new cross-company workflows with unprecedented levels of decentralization and trusted information sharing capabilities. Examples include capital market infrastructure or tracking products over global supply chains, with high degrees of decentralization and trust.

You will be working with a team of leading blockchain engineers dedicated to making VMware Blockchain the dominant Enterprise Blockchain solution. Many of the features we envision originate from academic research, so you will also be validating designs with world renowned members of the VMware Research Group. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • Within 30 days of employment, learn the foundations of distributed trust and make your first contributions to the open-source Concord-BFT protocol (designed and developed in-house at VMware)

  • Within 90 days of employment, design and develop a new feature that enhances the VMware Blockchain capabilities as an enterprise blockchain platform. Potential examples include improvements to the core consensus protocol, integration with smart contract engines, storage layer optimizations, blockchain “Day 2” operations (upgrade, backup & restore, archiving data, etc.).

  • Within 180 days of employment, you will have a deep understanding of one or more key areas of enterprise blockchain technology, reviewing code and design proposals by peer engineers, as well as leading efforts in your new areas of expertise. You will also be working closely with the Product and Architecture teams, to ensure alignment of the new designs with the VMware Blockchain technological vision and roadmap.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Use Modern C++ (11/14/17) to implement complex features as part of an enterprise blockchain solution.

  • Use your established expertise in networking, storage, or security/cryptography to build innovative blockchain core components

  • Design new features of the byzantine fault tolerant consensus layer, smart contract integration and enterprise readiness of VMware Blockchain (upgrade, backup & restore, archive, etc.).

  • Provide mentorship and for emerging talents within the team

  • Collaborate effectively as part of cross-functional teams (system testing, deployment automation, DevOps)

  • Protect newly produced intellectual property with patents filed in the US and worldwide

  • Work with a global team in different geographical locations

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The hiring manager for this role is Teodor Parvanov, Manager R&D, Core Blockchain Platform (Bulgaria). He has been with VMware for the past 8 years, in various engineering and technical leadership roles. His diverse experiences in the company have built his expertise in distributed trust systems (blockchain), as well as a “hobbyist” interest in formal methods and knowledge engineering.

Teodor’s management philosophy is based on mutual trust and alignment with business priorities. He encourages everyone on the team to be independent thinkers, accountable for the outcomes they deliver. Teodor supports every team member’s unique talent and development path, understanding that hands-on experiences are the best way to learn and grow.

The team in Bulgaria is made up of leading C++ programmers and distributed systems experts who partner closely with team members from the other major VMware Blockchain sites in Israel, India, and the USA.

Where is this role located?

Flexible/Remote: The location of this role is flexible within Bulgaria. Work will be done from an office some days during a week and other days from home. A fully remote setup is also possible, depending on the candidate’s preference.
