We bring chip design back to Europe!
For a technologically more independent Europe, we want to develop Fraunhofer IIS into a European IC Design Center for trusted, energy-efficient high-speed ICs by 2025. As a leading competence center for digital chip design, we deliver essential cutting-edge technologies in the areas of exascale high performance computing and trusted electronics. In addition, we offer sophisticated digital design services based on RISC-V. Our target customers are design houses, semiconductor manufacturers, SMEs and system integrators. Potential applications are in areas such as high-speed data processing, blockchain, and cybersecurity.

What you will do

  • You will work on the implementation of Google’s OpenTitan security chip in an FPGA environment.
  • You will study the open-source architecture and deploy it in an FPGA environment using it as an external security co-processor for a larger application

What you bring to the table

  • You have knowledge in a hardware-description language (SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL), embedded systems and also Know-how in the field of microelectronics.
  • You may have done some work with Linux environments and FPGA architectures
  • You have good communication skills
  • You have very good English and good german language skills
  • You are independent and committed

The thesis will be assigned and carried out in accordance with the rules of your university. For this reason, please discuss the thesis with a professor who can advise you over the course of the project. The duration for the thesis should be 6 months.

Weekly working hours are determined by agreement. You can reduce your hours before exams and increase them during semester breaks. You can flexibly determine the working days. After your studies, you have the option of working with us full or part time.
