The Port of Rotterdam is playing an active role in the energy transition and digitalisation of industry and logistics. The objective is a CO2-neutral port and its logistics in 2050. The port is working on over 50 concrete projects, alongside government and private companies to shape the transition. These projects are set up by the employees in the New Business & Portfolio (NB&P) department. NB&P works on attracting new companies, setting up projects to help existing clients become more sustainable and developing new activities and services of the port itself. Therefore, the NB&P department plays an important role in creating a sustainable future and contributes to the long-term success of the port of Rotterdam.

Wat ga je doen?

In the NB&P department, you will focus on the new Twin Transition Digital & Green programme. This programme works on various digital developments to accelerate the energy and raw materials transition and to improve the sustainability of transport through the port. You will work with colleagues from NB&P, the other commercial departments, our digital innovation team, our strategy department and several of our existing digital platform initiatives.

You will focus on converting opportunities into tangible projects in industry and the transport sector with tech giants and start-ups, public and private partners and national and international players. You will help scout, initiate and develop value propositions. You are responsible for projects in which using different data sources and sharing data are key. These may include, for example, smart energy connections, (circular) marketplaces, blockchain and its applications in ecosystem & platform play. When there is sufficient market and internal commitment, you are able to take it to the next phase with relevant parties and colleagues. In this job, you will learn to manage and influence different stakeholders and dependencies. Through this work, you can expand your knowledge about issues, challenges and trends relating to (digital) energy transition developments, and you maintain a network of relevant relations in and outside the port.

Wat vragen wij van jou?

  • A graduate or a maximum of 2 years’ work experience.
  • University academic level of thinking relating to sustainability, business economics, industrial ecology and/or similar subjects in the field of sustainable business development. Preference for a relevant technical education background.
  • Affinity with logistics is a bonus, as is experience with technological developments such as blockchain and AI.
  • You are interested in innovation, and you generally want to understand how they work, in both technical and business terms.
  • You can work independently, act strategically and proactively, have creative ideas and a feeling for the market and related interests.
  • You have strong communication skills and are convincing towards clients, relations and colleagues.
  • You proactively look for and recognise possibilities to convert abstract opportunities into concrete projects and partnerships.
  • Cultural (international) and organisational sensitivity.
  • You have good verbal and written command of the Dutch and/or English language.

Wat bieden we jou?

  • The starting salary depends on education and background and is a maximum €3,200 gross per month (with the opportunity to move up to the end of the scale at € 4,629 via the annual appraisal).
  • 36-hour working week, and the possibility of partly working from home.
  • A one-year contract, which could lead to an opportunity for permanent employment.
  • Excellent pension scheme with the ABP pension fund (average earnings system in which about 70% of the contributions are paid by us).
  • Reimbursement of expenses of travelling by car or public transport.
  • Thirteenth month and holiday allowance, accrued via a personal choice budget of 19.6%. You have several options to use this budget. We offer a wide variety of training and education possibilities for you to choose from to work on your personal development.
