About the Team

The Central Insights Unit is a new team within GSMA M4D programme, which focuses on the frontier technology research topics and their current and potential impact in the emerging economies. The team will also work with the country offices of our donor – the Department of International Development (DFID) by capacity building activities and by producing research directly relevant to the country. The team will work in collaboration with multiple Mobile for Development (M4D) programmes, with a view to adopt an integrated approach in research needed to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

About the Role

  • Lead on managing internal knowledge base and coordinating content for internal and external outputs

The Insights Analyst will work closely with the Insights Manager(s) and Senior Insights Manager to ensure quick and timely delivery of knowledge and insights required for our regular country-specific engagements. This will include identifying key sources and collating insights to product content. The Insights Analyst will require to coordinate and communicate with internal teams, donors and other external parties.

  • Participate in the research, analysis and production of our key insights and learnings deliverables

The Insights Analyst will be contributing to generating insights for and drafting several of the team’s blog posts, insights reports and other research deliverables. This will involve using qualitative and quantitative methods to analyse data, obtained through desk-based research. The Analyst may be involved in primary research (sometimes fieldwork) as well as engagements with external research agencies.

  • Insights dissemination

Together with the team, the analyst will be responsible for dissemination of the created content in close collaboration with the marketing team and leveraging online (social media etc.) and offline (printed reports etc.) channels.

  • Support and sometimes lead on the coordination and logistics work for internal/external events

The Insights Analyst will track and identify the most relevant events for the team to attend, coordinate the team’s participation (e.g. securing speaking sessions) and logistics in internal/external events, and support the team to prepare content and materials for the events.

About You
The right candidate will be able to draw on a solid foundation of commercial expertise and industry knowledge and be excited to join a diverse team that shares a passion for the ways mobile phones can empower people. We welcome applications from professionals with the following demonstrated qualifications:

  • Genuine interest in both the commercial and social benefits that are presented by mobile enabled solutions, is a must.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to express complex technical or commercial issues clearly, and extract key messages from broader publications.
  • Excellent cultural awareness and a desire to work with teams around the world.
  • A confident, self-starter, highly motivated to take on new challenges, independently improve processes, find solutions in time of limited guidance, and reach out to senior people within M4D and the broader GSMA as necessary.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (Covid permitting). The Insights Analyst may spend some of their time in the field (not more than a few weeks per year)
  • Fluent spoken and written English is essential; Other language skills – French in particular – a plus.
  • Desirable: experience in emerging or frontier technology such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Machine Learning etc.
  • Desirable: experience (even if as internship) mobile operators, insights or management consulting roles, experience in organising events with senior stakeholders and/or start-ups, experience of working in or with emerging markets
  • Existing authorization to work in the UK.
  • This is a contract position until June 2022
