The Role
GQ is looking for a savvy and self-motivated community manager to shape strategy, manage moderation, grow audiences and provide oversight for a new GQ Discord community.

We are looking for a strategic thinker who can develop strategies for GQ with confidence. Reporting to GQ’s Senior Manager of Audience Development, this role will be the face of GQ for our Discord community, working closely with the GQ editorial, video, PR, consumer marketing and social teams to shape and produce regular programming that promotes active participation amongst the Discord community.

The candidate should have experience managing and growing audiences for media brands, and must prove adept at both creative content creation and the tactics that increase community engagement. They should be customer-obsessed, have a pulse on new and emerging trends in the social media space across all platforms, be relentlessly curious about what’s happening in the world and always looking for ways to surprise and delight through brand storytelling. This role will be dedicated to community and communication – growing our following, engagement, traffic and revenue by nurturing a deep sense of community that grows brand awareness and engagement through influencer and social media marketing.

Candidates should have a passion for the topics GQ covers – ranging from fashion to pop culture to sports – and should have a keen ear for GQ’s voice and an eye for our signature look, able to pair good taste with quantitative findings to make quick decisions on everything from copy to creative to collaborators.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Develop, implement and own the community building strategy for GQ on Discord, being the face of the brand to this community
  • Develop, implement and manage the community of members and mega fans of our various brand activations
  • Drawing up a run-of-show and asset lists for Discord programming, acting as a producer during Discord activations, facilitating programming and content with GQ staff and talent
  • Create innovative activations to foster deeper relationships with community members, assisting in helping new Discord members navigate different activations
  • Stay on the bleeding edge of the latest community platform trends, best practices and technologies
  • Collaborate closely with the broader Editorial, Social, Audience Development, Video, PR, Consumer Marketing and other teams to deliver on brand goals
  • Monitor member engagement and suggest content optimization
  • Build up a team of moderators across time zones that will help manage the Discord community, proactively engage and reward this moderator community
  • Assist members in their needs, implement community changes, and help keep the community a safe and welcoming space
  • Communicate with fans, influencers and other partners/collaborators to increase our network
  • Project data analysis and KPIs monitoring to further optimize the community strategy, provide constructive feedback
  • Master GQ’s signature style & hone its voice and visual presentation on Discord
Key Requirements
  • Experience with community building strategy
  • Deep experience with Discord
  • Good understanding of social media KPIs
  • Engagement with blockchain, cryptocurrency and NFTs
  • Able to multi-task with solid organizational and time-management skills.
  • Pro-active and able to show initiative and deliver innovative ideas which constantly improve the global customer experience
  • Able to build good professional cross-functional relationships with peers and team management in multicultural and fast-paced environment
  • Great interpersonal, presentation and communication skills with proven ability to communicate with senior global stakeholders
  • Genuine passion for the fashion world and engagement with the GQ brand
  • Strong editorial judgment and clean writing skills; strong attention to written and visual detail
  • English spoken and written is mandatory
  • Experience with digital event planning or live video production a plus
