At the heart of this challenge, is the need to completely transform the energy system from today’s dependency on fossil fuels to one with zero carbon emissions.

At Arup we recognise that solving this problem will require the combined skills of many disciplines including engineers, project managers, economists, entrepreneurs, digital experts, and behaviourists in a collaborative and innovative environment.

We already have a strong track record helping clients with this transition in areas such as offshore wind, regulated networks, hydrogen, nuclear, cities and low/zero carbon buildings and are looking to grow our energy business substantial over the next few years.

Decarbonisation of the energy system is a priority focus area within Arup’s energy business. As evident from the wider energy sector digitalisation agendas, such as the Energy Data Task Force and Energy Digitalisation Task Force, digital technology is creating new opportunities for the sector and will play a critical role in the sector net-zero journey.

We are looking for a technically and commercially astute digital energy consultant who shares our passion for decarbonising the energy system, reducing the energy demand, and who can help us grow our digital energy portfolio within the region.

The role sits within the Digital Services group, which is a centre of excellence and incubator for Arup combining advanced digital, engineering, technology, analytics, and product expertise to add new value for clients. The role will report to the Global Digital Energy Leader

The Role

The role is to contribute and develop our digital energy business in the UKIMEA.

This is a critical role for our digital energy business taking on technical and leadership of this fundamental area. You will be part of the Digital Services group and be partnered with the regional energy business. You will report to the Global Digital Energy Leader and be responsible for contributing to building the digital energy business and delivering a diverse portfolio of technology-related advisory, services, consulting, data, and product projects throughout their life cycle from strategy, design and into operation.

In addition, you will have a strong understanding of the technical challenges and opportunities for digital energy, and the role of digital within it, to be able to take our broad range of digital service offerings to market, as well as to develop integrated services tailored to client needs.

About you

As a digital energy consultant you should have deep energy expertise. You should also have an excellent grasp and understanding of the potential of technology, data and digital in this space, along with advanced knowledge of energy data, technology and software systems. You will be able to translate technical language into normal day to day business conversation, as well as being able to positively influence clients and your team.

You will have a strong perspective on the role of traditional digital technologies, such as the internet, digital data, software, digital models, that are at a range of maturities in the energy industries, but also a suite of advanced technologies that are intrinsically digital and developing fast, such as IoT, connected sensors, digital twins, AI/ML, 3D printing, drones, smart energy, CAVs and blockchain.

You will be a key member of the digital energy team, leading multi-disciplinary teams, managing bidding, work-streams and commissions for external and internal clients or partners. You will be adept at bringing people together with different perspectives and skill sets, and your focus will be on both meeting and shaping the client’s needs by working internally with colleagues from other disciplines as well as external suppliers. A key part of your remit will be to secure new and repeat work for the business via both internal contacts and external clients.
